Legal Updates

Spanish Immigration & Legal Updates

Spanish immigration, tax and business law does not sit still. Deadlines get pushed back, decrees get repealed, reglamentos get rewritten. Most guides online are written once and left to go stale. Ours are not: we track every change that affects the routes on this site, date every page, and revisit them on a standing schedule. This page is where every dated update lands first.

Quick answer

This hub tracks dated Spanish immigration, tax and business law changes as they happen, rather than leaving guides to quietly go stale. Four recent changes matter most right now: the golden visa was terminated on 3 April 2025, arraigo’s two-year stay rule came into force on 20 May 2025, the Verifactu invoicing deadlines moved to 1 January and 1 July 2027, and the Ley de Memoria Democratica’s citizenship-by-descent window closed permanently on 22 October 2025. Each has its own dated update below, and we revisit this page monthly.

Why we track this Recently changed rules Latest updates Our evergreen guides

Why we track every rule change, and why that is our edge

Search results for Spanish immigration and tax questions are full of pages that were accurate once. A page written in 2022 about the golden visa, or in early 2025 about Verifactu, was not wrong when it was published. It became wrong the moment the underlying law changed, and most of that content was simply never revisited. We see the consequences of this constantly: clients who arrive on a free call already planning around a rule that stopped applying months earlier, because the page that told them about it never got a second look.

The single biggest differentiator we can offer on a page like this one is not a lower fee or a faster answer, it is discipline about dates. Every guide on this site carries the date it was last verified. When a decree, reglamento or AEAT circular changes something we cover, we update the relevant page and, for the changes big enough to matter on their own, we publish a dedicated dated update here, on this hub, explaining exactly what changed, why older content might still say otherwise, and what it means for you in practice.

That is also why this page exists as its own destination rather than a footnote on other pages. If you read something about Spanish immigration or tax law anywhere, including on our own site, and you are not sure it still holds, this is the fastest place to check, and the place we point our own team back to before advising a client on anything time-sensitive.

In practice, that means watching a specific, short list of primary sources rather than relying on secondary summaries that are themselves several steps removed from the actual text of a law. We track publications in the Boletin Oficial del Estado, BOE, where every royal decree, organic law and decreto-ley we cover is actually published. We watch AEAT’s own guidance pages and FAQ updates for tax and invoicing changes, since the tax agency frequently clarifies or adjusts a deadline’s practical application after the decree itself is published. And we track the Instrucciones issued by the Secretaria de Estado de Migraciones, which tell individual Extranjeria offices how to apply a reglamento in practice, often the detail that decides whether a specific file succeeds or stalls.

None of this is a promise that we catch every change the moment it happens. It is a commitment to naming our sources, dating our pages, and correcting them promptly once we know something has moved, rather than letting a guide quietly go stale for a year while it keeps generating search traffic on the strength of outdated information.

Reviewing a recent Spanish legal rule change with a Malaga abogada
Every dated update on this hub starts the same way: a decree or deadline changes, and we check it against every page it touches before publishing anything.

What changed recently: a quick reference

Four changes account for most of the outdated information we still see circulating in 2026. Each is covered in full in its own dated update below; this table is the fast version.

RuleWhat changedDate
Golden visaInvestor residencyTerminated for new applicants under Organic Law 1/2025; existing permits can still renew3 Apr 2025
ArraigoRegularizationStay requirement cut from 3 years to 2 for social, sociolaboral and socioformativo, under RD 1155/202420 May 2025
VerifactuInvoicing softwareDeadlines pushed back a further year to 1 Jan / 1 Jul 2027 under RD-ley 15/20254 Dec 2025
Memoria DemocraticaCitizenship by descentThe window for descendants of Spanish emigrants closed permanently, no extension22 Oct 2025

If you only remember one thing from this table, make it this: a page that describes the golden visa as available, quotes a 2026 Verifactu deadline without qualification, or mentions an open Memoria Democratica window, was not updated after these dates. Treat it accordingly.
